Our Story
Founded and based in The Netherlands, Cor Unum produces ceramics designed by leading international designers, architects and visual artists. We take social and cultural responsibility for the legacy of the ceramic crafts. Our mission is brought to the market through a team consisting of professionals, students, people with distance from the labour market, designers and volunteers. We share one common passion: everyone deserves a place, everyone has got a talent and anyone can contribute to make the world somewhat nicer. That’s our long story short.
Designers
We are privileged working with and for the top designers of our time. This cross fertilization between the most talented designers and Cor Unum’s knowledge of the craft of ceramic art results in innovative products, new design traditions and in a wonderful ceramic collection.
We are proud of our fruitful collaboration with Maarten Baas, Kiki van Eijk, Joost van Bleiswijk, Roderick Vos, Floris Hovers, David Derksen, Jeroen Wand, Floris Wubben, Sergio Herman, Claudy Jongstra, Truly Truly, Bas van Beek and a lot more.
Makers
The team of the Cor Unum production space consists of professionals, art students, people with distance from the labour market and volunteers. They all have the ambition translating the designs of the designers in beautiful products. It all starts with the master-modeller and ends, after glazing in the oven. It’s a close team aiming for the best results.
Collection: Now and Classic
The cross fertilization between professional designers of our time, the knowledge of the craft of ceramic art enter Cor Unum and the talent trained on art schools in the Netherlands, result increasingly in innovative products and new design traditions. Implicitly this is the ambition of Cor Unum which is which is visible in an extensive collection of contemporary ceramic objects. Nevertheless Cor Unum never forgets its valuable history, being illustrated by the classics of i.e. Zweitse Landsheer (founder of Cor Unum), Benno Premsela, Gijs Bakker, Theo van Doesburg, Ettore Sottsass and Geert Lap, Alessandro Mendini.
Customization and projects
Cor Unum produces ceramics designed by leading international designers, architects and visual artists. Regularly we are asked to co-work in architect projects or are assigned to design tableware for restaurants and objects for hotel rooms. These challenges result in tailor-made ceramic products, exclusive but all with the clear signature of Cor Unum. In commission from companies and the government we develop business gifts in ceramic, matching the corporate house style of the client.
Flagship store
In our main ceramic space – consisting of the production department, a gallery and a shop – Cor Unum shows how high-quality ceramics are created. Today and yesterday! Visitors can view the history of ceramics, the results of investigations and all kind of production tests are shown. The story of clay becomes visible through experiments, results from research and products from past and present. The story of clay never ends and as of today designers, students and Cor Unum explore the possibilities of ceramic production, invent new glazes and search for ways to reuse clay and glaze. Together with young and established design talent we are constantly looking for the innovation and durability of the ceramic process.
